Nestled on the banks of the picturesque St. Joseph River, Indiana University South Bend stands as a beacon of academic excellence and community engagement. With its rich history, vibrant campus life, and commitment to student success, IUSB has become a top choice for those seeking a transformative higher education experience.  With a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs, IUSB offers a world-class education that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Whether pursuing a degree in business, arts and sciences, education, health sciences, or other fields of study, IUSB students can expect an intellectually stimulating environment where they have the opportunity to thrive.

One of the greatest strengths of the university is its faculty. Comprised of renowned scholars, industry experts, and dedicated educators, faculty members at IUSB bring a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to the classroom.

State-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge research labs provide IUSB students with the tools they need to excel academically, while the student center buzzes with life, hosting a range of social, cultural, and recreational activities that foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie.

IUSB also recognizes that affordability is a crucial factor in accessing higher education. The university offers a range of scholarships, grants, and financial aid options to ensure that qualified students can pursue their academic dreams without undue financial burden. Through its commitment to diversity and accessibility, IUSB opens doors to education and opportunities for students from all backgrounds and walks of life.

IUSB offers a wide range of degree programs across five schools: the Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the Vera Z. Dwyer College of Health Sciences, and the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts. Fully 65% of the graduates from these schools stay in the area after graduation, significantly impacting the local economy and workforce.

In addition to these degree programs, IUSB offers a range of certificate programs, continuing education courses, and online learning options. Students can tailor their education to their interests and career goals, with the guidance and support of expert faculty members.

But education at IUSB extends far beyond the classroom. The university takes great pride in its strong community connections and actively encourages students to engage with the world around them. Through service-learning programs, internships, and cooperative education opportunities, students have the chance to apply their knowledge in real-world settings, making a positive impact on their community while gaining valuable practical experience.

IU South Bend also inspires incredible students like Katherine Cassel, to identify and pursue their life’s mission.   Katherine Cassel, an IU South Bend nursing grad and mother of three, is truly an example of resilience and using the power of higher education to transform one’s life and positively impact those around them. Overcoming a difficult upbringing and personal hardships, Katherine never gave up and started a new chapter in her life helping others through her career as a nurse. Originally from Milwaukee, Cassel grew up in an extremely difficult home environment. She did not attend high school, but was able to obtain her G.E.D. and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.  Unfortunately, adversities mounted to the point that she endured a period of homelessness. When she moved to Indiana with her three children to begin her freshman year at IU South Bend, she thrived while helping her classmates achieve as well. In her time at IU South Bend, Cassel served as a peer mentor and helped underperforming students succeed and was named Chancellor’s Student Worker of the Year.[1]

About the Indiana Trust Nonprofit Spotlight Program

Indiana Trust Wealth Management launched the Indiana Trust Nonprofit Spotlight program initiative in January 2021, which consists of recognizing, rewarding, and promoting a nonprofit organization in one or more of the company’s footprint areas on a monthly basis, as a way to highlight various nonprofit organizations throughout the year and bring attention to the good work being done in the communities they serve. Under the Nonprofit Spotlight initiative, the nonprofit organization will receive a $1,000 corporate donation and be eligible for employee gift-matching throughout the year. David R. Kibbe, JD, President & CEO, states, “As a majority employee-owned company, matching our employees’ contributions is an opportunity for Indiana Trust to support those nonprofits whose missions connect with our employees."
